    A Granado Pharmácias é uma empresa brasileira de produtos cosméticos, medicamentos e perfumaria, fundada em 1870.

    Em 1870, o português José Antônio Coxito Granado fundou na cidade do Rio de Janeiro a Botica de Barros Franco, que deu origem à empresa atual.

    Em seus primórdios, a pharmacia manipulava produtos com extratos vegetais de plantas, ervas e flores brasileiras, cultivadas no sítio do seu fundador, em Teresópolis (RJ). Além desses medicamentos, Coxito ainda importava produtos da Europa e adaptava suas fórmulas para os padrões e as necessidades dos brasileiros e daqueles que aqui moravam. A qualidade e eficácia desses produtos logo tornaram a farmácia uma das fornecedoras oficiais da Corte. Desta aproximação nasceu a amizade com Dom Pedro II que, em 1880, conferiu à Granado o título de Farmácia Oficial da Família Imperial Brasileira.

    Suas marcas mais famosas são o Polvilho Granado e os sabonetes de glicerina com base vegetal e glicerina 100% natural.

    Em 2004, a Granado adquiriu a marca Phebo, fundada em 1930 e do mesmo ramo. Com essa aquisição, a Granado passou a ter, além da fábrica no Rio de Janeiro, a fábrica de Belém do Pará, que continuou produzindo os produtos da marca Phebo e passou a fabricar os sabonetes Granado. Contudo o objetivo da empresa é manter a tradição da linha Phebo associando-a a sabonetes e perfumes enquanto a marca Granado é associada a linhas terapêuticas.

    Em outubro de 2016, a Granado fechou a venda de uma participação de 35% para a espanhola Puig, dona das marcas Carolina Herrera e Jean-Paul Gaultier, por R$ 500 milhões. As conversas entre as duas empresas se estendiam desde janeiro. O controle da empresa vai continuar nas mãos de Christopher Freeman, que comprou a empresa em 1994 pela quantia de US$ 8 milhões.

    Almejando crescimento no mercado internacional, a Granado tem seus produtos vendidos na loja de departamentos Le Bon Marché, localizada em Paris, França, Casa Pau-Brasil, localizada em Lisboa, Portugal; e na loja Isetan, localizada em Tóquio, Japão.

    Em 2017, a Granado inaugurou a sua primeira loja internacional em Paris, localizada na 21, rue Bonaparte, 6ème. A rua é reconhecida pelas lojas de luxo e galerias de arte. Paralelamente à inauguração da loja, a empresa lançou uma loja online focada para o público europeu. A loja entrega em todos os países da Europa. Além da loja na capital francesa, a Granado possui ainda lojas próprias em Portugal, na Inglaterra e na Bélgica.

    Em fevereiro de 2024, a Granado inaugurou sua primeira loja nos Estados Unidos, na cidade de Nova York.

    Fundada em 1870 pelo português José Antônio Coxito Granado, a Granado ficava na Rua Direita, 14/16, no Centro do Rio de Janeiro, uma das mais movimentadas da época. Hoje, os cariocas a conhecem como rua Primeiro de Março, e a Granado lá permanece com suas portas abertas.

    FARMÁCIA OFICIAL DA FAMÍLIA IMPERIAL

    A qualidade e eficácia desses produtos logo tornaram a farmácia uma das fornecedoras oficiais da Corte. Desta aproximação com a Família Imperial, nasceu a amizade com Dom Pedro II que, em 1880, conferiu à Granado o título de Pharmácia Oficial da Família Imperial Brasileira.

    Em 1903, João Bernardo Granado, irmão de Coxito, criou o Polvilho Antisséptico, produto mais antigo e conhecido da empresa. Sua fórmula, que teve registro aprovado por Oswaldo Cruz, permanece inalterada e protegida com muito zelo. No período republicano, a Granado manteve seu status e conquistou, entre outros, o jurista Rui Barbosa, Francisco Pereira Passos e o abolicionista José do Patrocínio.

    Em 1912, a farmácia expandiu para um prédio na Rua do Senado, onde por mais de cem anos funcionou uma das suas fábricas. Anos depois, foi adquirida a fábrica de Belém do Pará, onde são produzidos os sabonetes em barra. Os demais produtos da botica ganham vida no moderno Complexo Industrial de Japeri (RJ), com instalações e equipamentos de última geração espalhados por 30.000m² de área.

    FORÇA FINANCEIRA E CRESCIMENTO CONSTANTE

    A primeira filial da Granado foi inaugurada em 1917, na rua Conde de Bonfim, 300, na Tijuca (RJ). Em 2007, a farmácia ganhou endereços nos bairros do Leblon (RJ) e Jardins (SP). No ano seguinte veio o endereço da loja virtual (www.granado.com.br) e, em 2009, a loja da rua do Lavradio (RJ) e a expansão da loja da rua Primeiro de Março. Hoje, são mais de 90 endereços, espalhados pelas principais cidades do País, e a Loja Virtual.

    Além da manipulação de medicamentos, Coxito também se aventurou no ramo de publicações. Durante os anos de 1887 a 1940, ele editou o almanaque anual ‘Pharol da Medicina’. Nele, médicos, farmacêuticos e seu fiel público eram informados sobre os novos produtos da sua farmácia. Em 2007, o folheto voltou a ser impresso, com o mesmo propósito inicial: divulgar inovações em suas linhas de produtos e seus lançamentos.

    Depois de três gerações na família Granado, a marca hoje é presidida pelo inglês Christopher Freeman. Em 2004, já sob o seu comando, a Perfumaria Phebo foi incorporada à empresa, bem como os produtos que fabricava. Desde então, novos itens passaram a ser desenvolvidos para a perfumaria, e hoje totalizam linhas exclusivas e c.

    Quantos anos tem a Granado?

    Com início das atividades em 1870, a história da Granado teve muitas reviravoltas para se manter na preferência dos brasileiros. Quantas empresas, não importa o segmento, conseguem se reinventar de verdade, tendo ainda mais sucesso do que antes? Se olharmos para o mercado, é fácil entender que não são muitas.

    Não à toa, de acordo com o IBGE, muitas empresas fecham as portas 3 anos após o início dos negócios, muito pela falta de boa gestão. É por esse motivo que o case de reposicionamento da Granado chama tanta atenção.

    A Granado, como já falamos, existe desde 1870, quando José Antônio Coxito Granado manipulava produtos com as ervas e plantas de seu sítio em Teresópolis. Coxito também importava produtos europeus, adaptando-os para as necessidades brasileiras. Logo, a marca ficou reconhecida como a Pharmácia Oficial da Família Imperial Brasileira, título dado por Dom Pedro II.

    “No início da empresa, Coxito era muito visionário e empreendedor. E isso ficou ao longo dos anos. Ele levava os ingredientes para o exterior para colocar nas exposições, nunca teve medo de ousar”, relembra Sissi Freeman.

    Nossa botica se manteve com a família Granado por várias gerações até que Christopher Freeman a assumiu. “Era uma empresa muito antiga, tradicional, a Granado de 1994 era bem diferente da Granado de hoje: desatualizada, com vários produtos antigos, mas de alta qualidade. Estava sem investimento há anos, como se estivesse dormindo”, comenta o CEO. Foi a partir da gestão Freeman que o case de reposicionamento da Granado aconteceu.

    Se as pessoas evoluem, as marcas também precisam se modificar, não acha? É assim que Sissi Freeman pensa: “o público vai atrás das novidades. Se você não tem essa cabeça empreendedora de experimentar ou testar novas coisas, a empresa fica desatualizada e parada, mesmo que seja centenária e histórica como a nossa”.

    Mas não pense que foi simples. “O desafio foi pegar o nome tradicional e transformar no sonho de uma empresa multinacional brasileira nesse setor. Descobrimos que rejuvenescer uma marca é difícil porque existem preconceitos envolvidos. Granado e Phebo [também adquirida pela família Freeman] eram consideradas marcas para vovó e vovô, criar algo para jovens demora”, conta Christopher.

    Antes do reposicionamento, quando se pensava nos produtos Granado que marcaram época, era comum falar apenas do Polvilho Antisséptico, certo? Hoje ele ainda é um dos queridinhos, mas não está mais sozinho no imaginário dos brasileiros. Isso se deve muito ao atual time de desenvolvimento de produtos, que marcou o reposicionamento e continua muito relevante.
